TEHRAN – Final investigation into an explosion in the southern city of Shiraz shows that the blast was an accident and not an attack, an informed official, who requested anonymity, said on Monday.
An explosion in a crowded mosque in Shiraz on Saturday evening killed at least 12 people and left about 200 wounded.Ordnance inside the mosque, used for an exhibition about the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, had caused the blast, the official told the Mehr News Agency, dismissing as political propaganda some reports that the incident was the result of a terrorist strike.
“Investigations confirm that these substances were stored for a long time which caused a chemical reaction and with the explosion of one of them others also blew up,” he explained.
The official stressed that the incident could not be a bomb attack as no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion.
“For example, the terrorist organization of Mojahedin Khalq Organization even after the explosion of household gas capsules claimed responsibility for the blasts in order to raise fear… these rumors are psychological operations carried out by anonymous groups to politicize this tragic event.
